What does “U11” mean?

A number of you have got in touch querying what is meant by U11 (or U8 or U13, etc).

When we refer to an U11, we mean someone whose eleventh birthday was/is on or after 1 September of the current school year.

So anyone whose eleventh birthday is after 31 August 2013 is an U11, even if their actual calendar age is 11.

In cricket, because the cricket season is towards the end of the school year, it means that most U11s are actually already 11 – and that is what causes the confusion.

So an U11 is anyone whose eleventh birthday falls between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014.

Normally, this means people in School Year 6 (as long as they are not studying above or below their normal school year group)

Similarly an U10 would be a Year 5 (tenth birthday falls between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014.

and so on

Where can I find the fixtures?

For those who are likely to be playing in the U11A, U11B, U11C, U13A, U13B, and U13C teams, you can go to our Play-Cricket site and find the fixture dates.

(1) Go to
(2) Select Matches->Fixtures
(3) Set Time/Date, and Team (eg 2014 Season, U13A)
(4) Apply Filters

You should get a print-out of the fixtures.

Some players may end up playing in more than one team during the season, so if you are interested in seeing all the fixtures, then I have downloaded my Excel (xlsx format) spreadsheet here. The ones in BLUE haven’t been arranged yet. It also doesn’t include Girls’ Games, which are arranged separately.

This web site is also where you can go to look at Results and Personal Statistics, and we also use this site to manage Player Registrations with the North Kent Junior League. Once matches are underway, you can also see the live tables.

The web site is a bit of a building site at present, because the ECB has launched a new version of Play Cricket over the winter, but the underlying statistical system is very good.

We’ll tidy it up as time permits, but as always, any offers of volunteer help on this would be very welcome.
